Pirinexus Ruta

Pirinexus Ruta Report

A few months ago, my lovely friend Nicole told me she was coming to Europe – specifically to Spain. This was of course very exciting because she would be super close and we could catch up together. The last time I saw Nicole we were exploring Oslo together and we had such a great time, she’s one of my favourite people to travel with: so calm, friendly and happy to take a chance.

Not long after giving me some vague details about her plans, she asked if Tom and I would be interested in doing a bike tour, to which we responded with a healthy “YES PLEASE”. After looking at a few route options, Nicole suggested the Pirinexus Ruta and that’s how we found ourselves cycling through the Pyrénées from Spain to France in May.

Jonçy at the door

Trucking on

Well, well, well. It has certainly been a busy few weeks since Easter. The main change is that we have moved to a new flat, and unfortunately this time we moved ourselves which is every bit as awful as I remembered! However, I did drive the moving truck, which was really quite the experience. We hired a huge camion with a liftgate and that certainly helped with much of the heavier stuff, but the first time I climbed into the cabin was a little nerve-wracking. I haven’t driven in around 3 years and on top of that I have never driven on the wrong (errr, right?) side of the road. It was fine, of course! Even a little bit fun, if I’m honest.

So, here we are now in a little village just outside the main city of Montpellier. I miss our neighbour’s friendly cat, whom we christened ‘Jonçy’.

Château Comtal, Carcassonne

New Flickr Set – Carcassonne, March 2015

Last weekend my oldest friend in the world and her husband spent a few days with us. They have been living in Paris for the last six months or so, and I can’t believe this was the first time we have seen them since they have been in Europe!

We decided to rent a car between the four of us and drive down to Carcassonne and spend Saturday night there. The weather was dreadful, but it was just so nice to catch up and explore somewhere new together that it didn’t really matter. Carcassonne is a beautiful mediaeval fortress and citadel/castle built over hundreds of years and a wonderful little place to wander through.

I’ve known Jen since we were babies together and our mothers are very good friends back home in Melbourne. We will hopefully be able to return the visit next month when Calexico play in Paris.
