Flats in Barcelona

On Shareflats

At the moment I am living in an AirBnB flat with four other students from Ironhack. It takes me back to Year 9 at school a little bit. The high school that I attended sends their Year 9 class out to their campus in the country for the whole year, with students returning home for every term holiday.

We lived in ‘houses’ of between 10 and 12 girls and the whole year was a revelation for everyone who attended, I think. The principles of living with other people never really change, of course, but every new group of people will always have their own dynamics.

I know that I can be a difficult person to live with. My flaws begin with a stubborn personality and include mostly kitchen-based preferences like an aversion to strong smells and a tendency to clean dishes as soon as they have been used. I like to think of these flaws as ‘quirks’… On the other hand, I like to think that I am someone who is happy to make compromises so I hope I’m not too difficult.

New Flickr set – Barcelona, July 2014

Well, I’ve finally been able to do some photo editing and upload an album to flickr. There are some photos of my beautiful friends from home that were here my first weekend in Barcelona – Ady and Tom. I also have a few from some small explorations around the city.

I’ve also taken quite a few of my terrific fellow students and teachers. The best ones are from when we are relaxing after class, of course! Continue reading New Flickr set – Barcelona, July 2014

Barcelona Dreaming

Barcelona is amazing – it’s one of my favourite places ever, even though I have barely had a chance to explore any of it yet! They keep us so busy at Ironhack that my spare time is mostly spent reading about the topic we just learnt or practicing the techniques I didn’t master in class.

Still, the first weekend that I was here two friends from home were also in Barcelona and Tom came down from Montpellier (there was a French public holiday on the Monday, so he took a long weekend). Tom and I had brunch (Rasoterra was amazing) on the Saturday morning and walked around a bit looking for coffee bars (Satan’s Coffee Corner was pretty great!) and vegetarian restaurants. Moving to France

A little while ago Tom and I took a trip to Montpellier in France so that Tom could attend a job interview and see the lab/facilities at IRD. I took a few photos on that occasion but I never posted about it.

When they offered Tom the job, we had to make a few decisions very quickly and so in a very short space of time I quit my job; we found new tenants for our German flat and we started to make plans for removalists. Critically, we also had to organise our attendance at a wedding in the Scottish Highlands and the start of my Ironhack web development course in Barcelona. Continue reading Moving to France

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Life suddenly became very interesting very quickly… I’m going to explain in more detail in the next few posts, but here’s an overview:

The first major change is that we moved to Montpellier in France. Tom is now working at IRD and we have just found a flat and moved all our belongings into it.

The second is that I quit my job (related to the first!). I feel both relieved and stressed by this change. Continue reading Ch-ch-ch-changes
